3 days after getting knackered, do I bath or not?

On one hand, I run the risk of making the wounds fresh again. On the other, I so do not want to smell and feel like a bum.

If you say I take a bath, do I go for the hot bath?

Depends. Do you have stitches or just abrasions?

Clean yourself and gently clean your wounds in the shower, then pat them dry and anti-bac/disinfect as neccessary, then redress them with clean dressings.

Of course, dirty wounds will only get infected.

You should absolutely clean yourself and your wounds, always.

Yeah, clean. Depending on where the road rash is, that self adhesive ace bandage wrap is really good for holding gauze on it once you've washed.

Soft sponge bath. It’s the way to go.

Road rash should be cleaned out as soon as possible. Last time I took a header on my bike I skinned my shin pretty good but made sure to clean it as soon as I got home. It healed surprisingly well, better than wounds I didn’t tend to as quickly or thoroughly. Don’t mess with infections, if something looks iffy, get yourself checked out.

After 3 days, you should be able to take a shower no problem. Just don’t scrub it, and leave any scabbing that’s established. Then, put antibiotic ointment and a fresh dry bandage on it.

Shower, dont scrub, be gentle, and a couple hours after the shower, break out the hydrogen peroxide and antibiotics. Keeping the rest of you clean is important to keeping road rash clean and infection free. It’ll hurt like a bitch, but in the long run, an infection is worse.

Ive had my share of road rash, once from my shoulder down to my leg on my right side. Downright painful in the summer, a little sweat made it horrific. And that was from hitting a pothole and going down against a stone wall.

Immediately after eating it, I rinsed with cold running water, then alcohol in cotton balls (agonizing), H2O2 (less agonizing) then povidone iodine (comfy). Next day, just the povidone iodine and Calmoseptine, which worked wonderfully in accelerating the hardening.

Problematic parts are the left pointing finger (fingertip got a bad hit) and right shoulder (stamp-sized), though they’ve hardened enough to resist drizzles. Our bath soap is antibacterial, so that’s a plus.

To be honest, barring those two sounds, the rest are grazes that aren’t painful but distracting, especially if I pack my books in my bag and I forget that the shit is on the back of my hand.

In any case, I shall take all your advice.

As reward, you get to choose the red wine that we’ll drink.

I had pretty awful road rash all over my body after getting hit by a car a couple years ago. There’s no easy way of going about cleaning yourself up haha

I waited a day or so after getting hit to get into the shower. I felt dirty as shit and it had to be done. Just make sure the shower isn’t too hot. Jump in, bear the pain for a few minutes and you’ll get used to it after a few minutes.

Well, I’m a bit behind in my reading and just caught this. I’m a fan of moist wound healing. The idea is to keep everything covered with ointment and bandages so it heals faster with less scarring. It also really helps in bendy areas like knuckles where scabs are more likely to get pulled off at the edges, contributing to scarring.

Don’t take my word for it!

“... cell growth needs moisture and the main goal of moist wound therapy is to create and maintain these optimal moist conditions. Cells can grow, divide and migrate at an increased rate to enhance the formation of new tissue. During this phase of wound healing, an aqueous medium with several nutrients and vitamins is essential for cell metabolism and growth.” ( http://www.woundsource.com/blog/clearing-… )
